Persistent Floater Residues
MARPOL Annex II has continued to evolve to ensure safe and sustainable handling of persistent floaters – substances such as vegetable oils, paraffin, animal fats, and similar materials.
These so-called persistent floaters are now defined by their physical properties, including a viscosity of 50 mPa.s or higher at 20°C and/or a melting point of 0°C or above, in line with the latest international regulations.
With our renewable approach CIMS transforms oil waste into biofuel feedstock, offering a sustainable solution that closes the loop.
Mandatory Specialized Pre-Washing of Cargo Tanks
Vessels carrying these substances are required to perform a mandatory pre-wash of their cargo tanks after unloading. All washings must be delivered to a licensed port reception facility before departure. This ensures compliance with MARPOL regulations while minimizing environmental impact and operational delays.
From Oil Waste to Feedstock
At CIMS we turn pre-washes into valuable resources. Oil fractions are extracted from the accumulated washings, while the water is treated and recycled. The recovered oil is sent to the Quatra factory, where its quality is improved and prepared as feedstock for biorefineries.
