Produced & Free Water Handling
We provide MARPOL compliant collection services for produced and free water generated by oil tankers discharging crude oil in the Port of Rotterdam.
Prior to cargo discharge at a terminal or refinery, oil tankers are required to remove free water present in the cargo tanks. This Free Water is transferred to a certified collection barge in accordance with MARPOL Annex I, local port regulations, and terminal-specific procedures.
What is Produced Water?
Produced Water is the largest waste stream associated with the oil industry and is subject to strict international and local environmental controls
It consists of:
Associated Water: reservoir water naturally produced with crude oil or injected during production
Wash Water: water used during wet crude treatment to reduce salt and sediment
